Vernon's Story

Not many, if any will remember me. I attended MHS for less than 1 year, but did graduate from MHS. I went to Bunker Hill from 1-7 grade, but transferred to Stayton, Oregon for 8-11th. Remember a couple of people from Bunker Hill, but none from MHS, but a couple of girls girl named Melba and Cynthia (General Science Class?). So, I joined the Marines immediately following graduation. Retired as a Lieutenant Colonel of Marines after 30 year career. Married an Okinawan girl in 1970, still married. We have 2 boys and one grandson. During USMC career did some travel, some overseas and a few States. Upon USMC retirement I drove a 16 wheeler for about a year. Loved the travel, but couldn't back my trailer worth a heck. I also worked...Expand for more
on the assembly line for Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC). Must have not been good at it, because OMC went bankrupt. While in the Corps I completed my AA degree and after driving truck I decided to complete my education, graduating from Kennesaw State with a degree in middle school education (Language Arts & Social Science). Learned during student teaching that I wasn't meant to teach (Not happy with it), so I became a Deputy Sheriff in Collier County, FL. I stayed with that job till I was hired into Federal Government work. I retired from federal government (civilian) service in 2012. I think of Coos Bay now and then, but haven't visited since 1999 or 2000. Fully retired now living in Harrisburg, PA. Hope all of you are well.
